How to get to The Point Mentawai
- Fly to Padang, West Sumatra
Your journey to The Point Mentawai begins with a flight to Minangkabau International Airport (PDG) in Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia.
Depending on your departure location, you may need to connect through Jakarta (Soekarno-Hatta International Airport) or Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) before flying to Padang.
Airlines serving domestic and regional routes include AirAsia, Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, Batik Air, Citilink, and other carriers, depending on the route and travel dates. Check current flight schedules before booking.
Important: We recommend arriving in Padang at least one day before your ferry departure to allow enough time for an overnight stay and a relaxed transfer to the harbour.
- Stay Overnight in Padang
Since ferry departures are scheduled in the morning on most operating days, staying overnight in Padang is the most convenient option.
We usually recommend staying at Budget Hotel, as it is located right in front of the Mentawai Fast ferry. It’s a very simple but practical hotel for the early ferry departure. The price is around IDR 350,000 per room. If you would like us to reserve a room for you there, we’d be happy to help.
- Take the Mentawai Fast Ferry to Tuapejat
The next morning, take the Mentawai Fast ferry from Padang to Tuapejat, in the Mentawai Islands.
The ticket price is IDR 350,000 per person.
If you are bringing surfboards in a board bag, additional baggage charges may apply depending on the weight:
1 – 15 kg: IDR 230,000
16 – 25 kg: IDR 460,000
26 kg+++: IDR 690,000
- Transfer from Tuapejat to The Point Mentawai
Upon arrival in Tuapejat, we can help arrange a private car transfer to The Point Mentawai in Katiet. The journey takes approximately three hours, depending on road and weather conditions.
The transfer costs approximately IDR 1,000,000 per car and can be shared by up to four passengers, making it a convenient option for small groups.

Important: Mentawai Surf Tax
If you’re coming to surf, you’ll need to pay the Mentawai Surf Tax when you arrive in Tuapejat after getting off the Mentawai Fast ferry. The fee is IDR 2,000,000 and it’s good for 15 days. Usually, there will be a person in Tua pejat that will come up to you and collect the surf tax. Make sure they give you a receipt and a bracelet.
Alternative: Private Boat Charter from Padang
For groups seeking a direct sea transfer, a private boat charter from Padang to Katiet may be available.
The cost is approximately IDR 38,000,000–45,000,000 per boat, with a maximum capacity of 16 passengers. The journey was estimated at around four hours.

Why do I need to stay overnight in Padang?
There is no early morning flight arriving to padang before ferry departure. The ferry only departs 4 times a week and once a day.
Where should I stay in Padang?
We recommend staying at Budget Hotel by the Harbour as the hotel is just walking distance away from the ferry harbour. There are other higher level hotels that we recommend like the Mercury Hotel, ZHM Premier or Santika Hotel.
Do I need travel Insurance?
Yes, it’s mandatory. Make sure they cover surf accidents.
How long can I stay in Indonesia?
It depens of your visa. With a VAO (visa on arrival) you can stay up to 30 days in Indonesia and it’s extendable to up to 30 days more.
Should I be concerned about malaria?
Actually there is no malaria in our area of the Mentawais.
Is the location child friendly?
Yes, kids can play around safely. We are surrounded by jungle, ocean and nature, what’s better than that? Also there is a lot of kids in the village and they will be happy to play.
Do you have a swimming pool at your location?
Yes!! We have a swimming pool and BBQ area for all to enjoy.
Do you rent surfboards?
Yes, we have 2 soft tops and some surf boards available. You can contact us to see photos of them. Also we know a shop in Padang that can also rent boards and will help you to put them on the Mentawai Fast.
Is there a photographer or videographer available at the Point?
Yes, we can organise a photographer/videographer for your stay.
Do you accept credit card?
Yes, we accept credit card payments, as we have a card machine available on-site. You can also pay in cash or by bank transfer, whichever is most convenient for you.
Do you cater for vegans and vegetarians?
Our menu is fully adapted for vegetarians and vegans. If you are, don’t worry, there is always solutions!
Do you have wi-fi?
Yes, we have STARLINK!! So you can come and work remotely if you need so.
