Surf Conditions
The Mentawais are exposed to the south-southwest swells, due to their position in the Indian Ocean.
What you can expect:
- February to April: Smaller waves but still consistent. Less crowded and easier surfing.
- May to September: Time to get barreled! High season with consistent swells, suitable for intermediate and experienced surfers.
- End of October to November: Smaller but consistent.
HT’s
Only a 5’ walk along the beach, the famous barreling right-hander Hollow Trees is internationally recognised as a world-class wave. This wave is for intermediate and advanced surfers in high season.
The Point
In front of the Point Surfhouse, just a few paddles away. A long fun, mellow right hander, suitable for all levels.
Lances Left
Lance’s left is a long and consistent left hander a few minutes bike ride from our house. Being on the other side of the island and facing east, the left is a good option when the wind is onshore at Ht’s.
Other Waves
We are located in a peninsula of south Sipora, that means that there is almost always off-shore winds in one of the waves. There is many more to surf, like: Bintangs, Monkeys, Cobras, mini HT’s… You always have OPTIONS!
