Surf Conditions

The Mentawai Islands are a dream destination for wave surfing, exposed to consistent south-southwest swells from the Indian Ocean. Whether you’re chasing uncrowded waves or world-class barrels, this region offers some of the best surf in Indonesia.

What you can expect:

  • February to April: Smaller but consistent waves, perfect for an easier, more relaxed surf experience with fewer crowds.
  • May to September: Time to get barreled! Peak season for wave surfing. Expect powerful and consistent swells. Best suited for intermediate and advanced surfers.
  • End of October to November: A mix of smaller but steady waves, still offering plenty of opportunities to surf.

HOLLOW TREES (HT’s)

Just a 5-minute walk along the beach, the world-famous barreling right-hander is a must-surf wave. A dream for intermediate and advanced surfers, especially during high season.

THE POINT

Right in front of the surf house, The Point is just a few paddles away; you can even watch it from our balcony. This long, fun, and mellow right-hander is suitable for all levels, making it one of our absolute favorites. Whether you’re just starting out or looking for a playful session between heavier swells, The Point is always a great option!

LANCES LEFT

A consistent, long left-hander just a scooter ride away. Facing east, it’s a great alternative when onshore winds hit HT’s.

Other waves

We’re based on a peninsula in South Sipora, meaning offshore winds are almost always hitting one of the waves. There’s no shortage of surf spots, including uncrowded waves like Bintangs, Monkeys, Cobras, and Mini HT’s. Whether you’re looking for barrels or playful walls, you’ll always have options!

Plus! We’re one of the only islands in the Mentawais where you don’t need a boat to access the waves. Just walk, grab a scooter, or paddle out. Surfing here is as easy as it gets!
